What is reach?
Definition
Reach is the number of unique people or accounts that saw a piece of content at least once during a given period.
Why it matters
Reach shows how far your content traveled beyond repeat viewers. It is the most common base for calculating engagement rate.
How to do it
- Each person counts once, no matter how many times they saw the post.
- Reach includes followers and non-followers.
- Compare reach across posts of the same format, since Reels, carousels and text posts are distributed differently.
Example
If 3,000 different accounts saw a carousel, its reach is 3,000, even if it was displayed 4,500 times.
Reach vs. impressions
Reach counts unique people. Impressions (views on Meta platforms) count every display.
FAQ
Is higher reach always better?
Not alone. Pair reach with engagement rate to see whether the right people saw the post and cared.
